Center for Morphological Research

KazIOR

Currently, the Center employs 36 staff members: 10 pathologists, 2 cytologists, 2 specialists, 12 laboratory technicians, 4 registrars, and support personnel. All types of morphological diagnostics are performed, including histological and immunohistochemical diagnostics of tumor and precancerous lesions, assessment of sensitivity to targeted, biological, and immunological drugs, cytological diagnostics of puncture biopsies and smears, and molecular genetic studies—SISH for determining HER2 status in breast and gastric cancer, FISH analysis for detecting MYC, BCL2, and BCL6 gene translocations in the diagnosis of aggressive B-cell lymphomas, amplification of the MDM2 gene in soft tissue and bone sarcomas (including differentiated liposarcomas, atypical lipomatous tumors, low-grade sarcomas, and osteosarcomas), as well as determination of ALK/PD-L1 status in non-small cell lung cancer, bladder cancer, and head and neck cancers.
The Center for Morphological Research provides methodological, organizational, and consultative support in the diagnosis of malignant neoplasms to oncology dispensaries and other healthcare institutions across the Republic of Kazakhstan. The staff of the Center have developed and implemented international standards for the study of breast, prostate, lung, stomach, colorectal, esophageal, and other cancers into routine practice. In their daily work, physicians utilize modern WHO classifications, professional literature, and actively participate in numerous master classes, conferences, seminars, roundtables, and webinars. Telepathology is widely used in daily practice, enabling online consultations and discussions of diagnoses with domestic and international colleagues.
The Center also trains pathologists and histology technicians for regional dispensaries and provides education for residents, master's students, and doctoral students from various departments of the institute. Center staff participate in scientific grants across multiple research areas, including lung cancer, colorectal cancer, lymphoproliferative disorders, thyroid cancer, and head and neck cancer.
Additionally, the staff of the Center for Morphological Research contribute to the organization and conduct of congresses, conferences with international participation, webinars, and master classes. The Center is one of the developers and implementers of the Comprehensive Plan for Combating Oncological Diseases and is a participant in the Program-Targeted Financing (PTF) initiative.
