Breast Cancer (BC) ranks among the leading types of cancer affecting women both worldwide and in Kazakhstan. The high prevalence of the disease, along with its medical and social significance, underscores the need for the implementation of modern approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients.
The Breast Tumour Department, part of the Kazakh OncologyInstitute (KazIOR), serves as a leading center where contemporary standards of diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer are applied, alongside active scientific research and the integration of innovative technologies.
Diagnostics
The diagnostic phase is based on the use of modern imaging techniques and morphological verification of the tumor process. To improve the accuracy of staging, intraoperative fluorescent imaging using indocyanine green has been implemented, allowing real-time identification of sentinel lymph nodes and supporting the decision-making regarding the necessity of further lymphadenectomy.
Drug Therapy
Individualized chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy regimens are selected depending on the biological phenotype of the tumor. This approach ensures high treatment efficacy and aligns with current international standards. Therapy selection is personalized, taking into account the tumor’s molecular and biological phenotype, which enables optimal effectiveness and adheres to the principles of personalized oncology.
Surgical Treatment
The surgical component includes a wide range of procedures, from radical mastectomies and breast-conserving surgeries with lymphadenectomy and intraoperative histological control, to modern reconstructive and plastic surgery techniques. Immediate and two-stage reconstructions are performed using tissue expanders, implants, and prostheses, as well as procedures with thoracodorsal flap (TDF) and oncoplastic techniques, including T-shaped breast lifts.
This comprehensive approach not only ensures oncological radicality but also preserves or restores aesthetic outcomes, directly impacting the patients’ quality of life.
Multidisciplinary Approach
The department regularly conducts in-hospital multidisciplinary team meetings, during which patient management strategies are determined. This ensures the integration of various areas of oncological care, continuity, and high treatment efficacy.
Accessibility of Medical Care
Treatment is provided under the State Guaranteed Medical Care Program, Mandatory Social Health Insurance , as well as on a commercial basis. This format ensures accessibility for different categories of patients while maintaining a high level of medical service quality. The center is equipped with modern technical facilities and offers comfortable conditions for patients.
Clinical and Scientific Base
